We Won the Best Paper Award at MEMSYS 2023!

Published: Sept 20, 2023 • ~4 min read

I’m thrilled to share that our paper, “Memory Workload Synthesis Using Generative AI”,
has won Best Paper at MEMSYS 2023! In this post, I’ll discuss how generative AI can revolutionize memory workload generation, providing high-fidelity simulations in a fraction of the time or cost. We trained a tabular transformer to emulate complex memory traces gleaned from real-world applications, incorporating reuse distance as a domain-specific constraint — a synergy that led to near state-of-the-art accuracy, and sometimes even surpassing existing analytical approaches like HRD and STM.

Beyond the excitement of the award, I’m humbled by the feedback from fellow architects and HPC experts. Next steps include exploring GPU-based speed-ups of the generation process, as well as refining our method for large-scale servers. Stay tuned for more details!
